The Great Park of Orange County, California -- Sustainable CommunityThe Great Park Plan calls for the largest Master Planned Community with the Sustainability at its core. This community is located on a 4,639-acre former Air Base in the city Irvine, California.
At the center, it is a 1,347 acres metropolitan park. The park will contain 2.5 miles canyon, more than 20 acres of lake, 974 acres of nature preserve, and a wildlife corridor linking the Cleveland National Forest to the Laguna Coast Wilderness Park.
The surrounding community within this plan will also include Residential and Commercial District, Learning District, Community Farm, and open spaces.
The principles of sustainability are applied at the entire Great Park Plan. This includes renewable energy generation, efficient transportation system, water treatment system, habitat restoration and etc. The water treatment system will use a three-stage natural treatment process. The habitat restoration and protection have a strong focus of native species.
The Great Park of Orange County will be serving as a living laboratory for our ultimate dream-- the Sustainability.
